Sea World- Texas

When I was a little boy, all I wanted to be was a veterinarian/Zoo keeper (in my eyes at that time, they were the exact same thing). When I got a little older, I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. Needless to say, it did not ever happen. It does make me proud that the girls have taken up this plan...kind of. N has determined, along with several other jobs, that she wants to be a dolphin trainer. Z wants to, along with being a fireman, wants to work with penguins. Since I am living my life via them, I have to encourage this as much as possible. Part of it is sending the kids to Zoo Camp and the other part is taking them to Sea World.

San Antonio is great and worth a visit just for being San Antonio. We did stay on the river (the pool had a floater in it), went to the Mexican market (we needed a new picnic blanket) and we did see the Alamo (remember the Alamo?), but the real reason we went to San Antonio was Sea World.

When we got there, it took forever before we all finally got into the park. Stupidity on our part actually. I think that we ended up having to go back out to the car 4 or 5 times. We went over and feed the dolphins. This was the highlight for N. She was very happy with getting to feed them.

We then worked our way over to the Sesame Street area. Part of the reason we went was purely to get to meet Elmo and friends. I don't know who was more excited- me or Z? It was a hit and almost worth it just for that.

The girls are big enough to ride on several of the bigger rides. We went to a really pathetic dolphin show and we got to see the new Shamu show (N wanted to know why the trainers did not get into the water with Shamu. It was difficult to explain to her that a trainer was killed, so they do not go into the water anymore).

I just need to get N in the water with the dolphins and Z to "play" with a penguin and my job with be done!

A Sick Lazy Day

All of us are a little sick. Well, all of us except M. Somehow she has managed to stay healthy. It is not like we have the stomach bug, just a little sick. Sick enough where we did not go out yesterday, but not sick enough where we did not need to be entertained. So it was one of "those" days.

The funny thing is that the kids have such different needs when they are sick and bored. Z is pretty good at finding entertainment herself. In fairness, this usually involves a big mess which I will be cleaning up, but she does it on her own. N on the other hand needs to be entertained. So our day was filled with dress up and pedicures (for her, not me). For the record, I give a pretty good pedicure.

The top three things for them during the day were the Tea Party in the afternoon, the penguin movie and playing with the dinosaurs. I figure that I could have had it worse. I could of ended up looking like Elmo.

Sesame Street Live

Vi var på utflykt i torsdags. Hyrde en Zipcar för hela kvällen och åkte till Lowell på barnshow med Sesame Street. Har jag berättat om Zipcar? Det är ett bildelningsföretag där man kan "låna" en bil när man behöver den, för ca $10 i timmen. Jämfört med att ha egen bil är det inte dyrt, och framförallt såhär på vintern känns det mycket smidigt - inget konstant behov av att skotta bil och hitta parkeringsplats. I dagens utflykt ingick dock både en halvtimmes bilskottning (vi var de första att låna bilen efter senaste snöstormen) och parkeringsplatsproblem (Zipcarskylten på parkeringsplatsen var översnöad, så någon hade tagit "vår" plats av misstag medan vi var borta).

I alla fall. Efter de första 30 minuternas snöskottning blev det en supermysig kväll. Eftersom stormen dagen till ära hade stängt alla skolor så var det kraftigt mindre trafik än vanligt på vägarna - skönt! Vi åkte tillräckligt tidigt för att hinna med mysmiddag på mexikansk restaurang innan showen började. Nova och Zoey tycker att tortillachipsen som man får medan man väntar på maten är bland det mysigaste som finns (- deras burritos blev till största delen lunchlåda till mig till på fredagen.) De vågade sig till och med på att - hand in hand - gå och fråga om mer när den första laddningen chips tog slut!

Zoey har under tiden här i Boston blivit mer och mer förtjust i Elmo och Cookie Monster och de andra Sesame Street- karaktärerna. Hon har Elmo-tröja, Elmo-pyjamas, Elmo-tofflor och Sesame Street-skor. Darrin har också Elmotröja och Elmofilt (för att göra henne glad), och "Elmofilm" är numera ett av favoritvalen till myskvällsfilm på fredagarna. (Zoey gör också en helt fantastisk Elmo-imitation - borde spelas in och sparas för eftervärlden...) Det här gjorde förstås att jag och Darrin hade ganska höga förväntningar på kvällen - och de kom inte på skam. För varje ny karaktär som dök upp på scenen skrattade Zoey som tokig. Elmo kom sist, och blev den största succén. Sammanlagt skrattade hon oavbrutet i minst tio minuter. Både hon och Nova njöt - och höll sig relativt stilla och uppmärksamma - under hela showen.
